Horizontal Silos

The horizontal silo is intended for the storage of bulk goods and granular products that have the shape or consistency of powder.

Horizontal Silos Features

The first examples of silos are vertical. Subsequently, as an evolution of the former, horizontal silos were born and have numerous advantages. The horizontal silos are easy to transport and to position thanks to their unique characteristics. They are equipped with adjustable telescopic lifters that allow loading and unloading from the means of transport without the use of a crane and installing even on ground that is not perfectly flat. They are not fastened to the ground. In addition, the speed of handling and installation, combined with the integration on the silos of many accessories that do not require assembly, make the horizontal silos the ideal choice for itinerant construction sites and where you do not want to build concrete slabs.

These horizontal silos are particularly suitable for dosing precise quantities of cement directly into truck mixers or machinery for the production of concrete, but it should be said that they are now also widely used in the agricultural, ecological, chemical and many other fields of application.
The silos shape and construction are closely related to its function: to store large quantities of material in a hermetically sealed environment so that loading and unloading operations are simple. The silos walls must be rigid such as to withstand the strong internal pressures when the silo is full, external, due to the wind, when the silo is empty; internally they must be well polished so as not to create obstacles to regular storage.

The horizontal silos (also called mobile silos) have a high capacity and are suitable for containing dust, ashes and granules. They are particularly suitable for mobile systems, given the many advantages compared to vertical storage: self-installing silos through telescopic legs without the help of cranes, they are easily adaptable to any type of ground and are ideal for working all over the world and in any situation. The main features are:

Fast assembly / disassembly
Extreme transportability for both road trailers and box containers
Minimal environmental impact
No permission needed for installation
No civil works required
Pressure control valve
MIN / MAX level indicators
Vibrators and vibrofluidifiers
DN 300 butterfly valve located at the extractor screw discharge
Possibility of loading with both pneumatic and mechanical systems.

Also employed in other sectors, such as ecology, recycling and industrial chemistry, the silos, made of both iron and stainless steel, can be divided internally into two compartments, in order to dose different materials within the same silo. In addition to the silos, many high quality and internationally available accessories are available, such as valves, filters, screw conveyors, sensors, weighing and control systems or anything else necessary in order to meet the customer’s needs. The silos are also customizable in colour, which the customers can choose at their complete discretion, as well as in the application of any logo or brand.
In the Horizontal Silos, the screw conveyor is included so to complete the machinery. The customer can easily choose the combination that in the best way meets his needs. In effect, he can combine the silos capacity with the screw conveyor’s length and diameter. Usually, the Screw conveyor’s model is the ES type and is used for cement extraction and transport of similar materials in concrete batching plants, but also in other building materials processing plants. It is easy to move and fit on site.

WHY CHOOSE A HORIZONTAL SILO?

The concept of a horizontal silo was first introduced in the 1800’s, but today these low-level silos have modern-day advancements in structure, construction material and usage. Mobility and ease of set-up has enabled this equipment to become a real contender compared with vertical silos for storage considerations in mining, civil and agricultural applications. Horizontal silos are a good choice when storing and discharging cement, lime, fly ash and other bulk material is required. They are often used at building sites, or for roadwork and urban work operations, where they are conveniently used to move around, requiring no fixed installation. In addition, they can be transported on trucks or in containers, with lifting jacks fitted for ease of loading or dismantling. When used in conjunction with concrete batching equipment, these storage silos become an indispensable partner.
Freedom of movement and easy set-up are the main reasons behind opting for this kind of silo. Mobile horizontal silos are known for their high productivity benefits, which include fast start-up and dismantling. This consideration is vital with construction work, which is focused on delivery deadlines. The horizontal silo is generally fitted with electronic controls and a view panel, providing visual and easy operating systems, which make it stress-free to manage the storage loads. Where needed, can have two or more storage compartments for different constituents.
